generational friendship?

I guess, even when you are the greatest of friends with someone, that friendship is not necessarily passed down to your respective children...

Don't worry, Sarah. They'll be great friends someday. We'll make them.

Annabelle is a mover and a shaker. She is into ev.er.y.thing. As my friend Millie says, "Oh, help us". This morning, I came around the corner and stumbled upon this sight:

Wow. I didn't know whether to laugh or scold or grab my camera. I'm pretty sure I may have down all three.

Look closely at the lovely milk carton Easter basket: "Cooper". He had just brought it home from preschool moments before. Let's say he was none too thrilled at this small disaster.

Annabelle, on the other hand, was tasting jelly beans for the first time in her little life and was enraptured. The black drool was amazing. And disgusting.

I love that Cooper is potty trained and that he stands up to pee like a grown man, I really do.

But...

"Oh no!" (coming from Cooper, who is in the bathroom)

Quick reply: "What's wrong, buddy?"

"I had trouble. I got a little bit pee pee on the floor."

"Oh, no big deal, bud. It's okay. I'll clean it up in a minute."

15 minutes later, I finally find my way into the bathroom to clean up that "little bit pee pee"...

when you're bored

Is it just me, or are January and February generally really boring months? Here's what happens in my house when people get bored:


Little girls start out jumping on big brother's trampoline but get distracted by the tasty rubber handles...

Little boys and their daddies decide to pretend it's "gettin hot in here" and eat dinner shirtless. Honey, our very small female friend then decides that she must join in...

You decide that it's a good idea to let your 1 year old feed herself spaghetti...

 

Baby girls "play" with your cell phone and it disappears. 10 hours later, you finally figure out that she dropped it down a floor air vent. Far down. Your husband spends the rest of the evening playing MacGyver to fish it out...

(p.s. Is it just ours or are air vents always this nasty? Ew.)

Looking forward to spring, but loving these "boring" days along the way.

about to hatch

On Sunday, several ladies and I threw a shower for our dear friend, Kelly. From the beginning, I knew I was out of my league. These girls know how to throw a shower! The theme was "about to hatch" and the details, ideas, and emails immediately started flowing... mainly by them. I was just trying to keep up!

First there was Megan's choice for the invitations. Cuter and nicer than any that I would have picked, I'm sure. I have just discovered that she even has her own stationary company, Lillian Day. Are you serious?!

When we got to Sarah's house, it was beautifully and creatively decorated... complete with a paper banner saying, "webb" (the baby's name) and "about to hatch".

I guess I know now- firsthand- why she started a crafty website, Create Studio. The girl knows what she's doing.

Sarah, an interior designer (did I mention that I was out of my league?), helped with the decor and also did the flowers.

The creativity in that group astonished me!

Thankfully, they were okay with my idea of keeping it simple with the food. Simple and delicious, of course. Chicken salad, balsamic tortellini and tomato kabobs, homemade hummus with veggies, and a fruit salad.

Then came my big part- the cake! It turned out really cute- I was pleased.

I like to think that I held my own amongst the shower super-divas. :)

The shower itself was lots of fun, and full of great conversations...

It was such a joy to celebrate our friend and the little man who will be here any day now! I'm eagerly awaiting my text, Kelly!

call me shallow

Although I am very excited about cooler weather, leaves changing, and football season, I'm also really happy that it's time for fall television!

C'mon. I can't be the only one. Bueller?


My Current Top 3

1. The Office: (you must watch this clip!)

Tell me you don't wish you were friends with these people! I want to soak it all in since this is Michael's last season. As  if their could be an Office without him!

2. Parenthood:

Unbelievable new show, just starting its 2nd season. If you are a parent, have a parent, or, well, I guess that's everybody... you will love this show. Truly! Go back to the pilot and watch them all, if you can. You can thank me later.

3. Grey's Anatomy:

I may be the only person who hasn't given up watching this. I know... it's trashy. But they are my friends now and I will probably continue to watch until Meredith Grey gets old and decrepit and retires from Seattle Grace. I am that girl.

What excites you about the fall?

It is wall art, made out of vintage wallpaper, that comes in all sorts of colors and designs... elephants, dogs, monkeys, birds. But the trees...

Oh, the trees.

I love generic brands. Seriously. If you look in our pantry, you will see loads of Great Value and Aldi brands. I am all about substituting for the name brands... let's be honest- do you really know that you're having Philadelphia cream cheese or Domino sugar?!

That being said, there are certain things that the generics cannot touch. Let me introduce you:


1.  Jif Peanut Butter

I am that choosy mom. It just can't be beat. I did recently start buying Jif Natural because it seems a little more, well, natural... no hydrogenated oils. I don't exactly know what that means, but I know they aren't good. :) Taste wise, I would still go with the original any day.



2.  Honey Bunches of Oats

I have tried the generics and they just don't hold a candle. It's the best cereal ever. Enough said.


3.  Oreos

They just never get old. I'm pretty sure I could eat them every day of my life. Deliciousness in my mouth.
